Don't think i've ever bothered writing anything on here
Well, I've just discovered that I've never properly pushed Illustrator particularly hard. This current project I'm working on is definitely my most ambitious yet. It's probably going to takes months. If only I weren't such a perfectionist - I've committed myself to a particular level of detail that is probably going to destroy me! Idiot!
It's a reworking of the picture of me and my katamari, rolling a big katamari across a park - except it's a scrillion times more detailed, and more in line with my current style (with more realistic proportions). I'm going to properly populate that big ball-o-junk, with real stuff. No shortcuts this time. This is where I find out if I really have what it takes to not just give up and cheat; usually I'll get to a particular level of completion and think "i can't be arsed now, it's shortcut time" and I'm never really happy with it. This time... I'm gonna go all the way!
The Illustrator file is getting pretty ridiculous already. Just exporting a render actually takes quite a while, and I'm only just getting started.
Maybe I'll post a few teaser parts as I get them done. I have to draw a huge array of different things, and for 'fun' I'm giving them far more detail than will ever be visible in the final picture [e.g., i've already done two full mock magazine covers]. I know it's overkill, but it'll at least make it easier to give everything a sense of being real junk instead of just stuff drawn to look like junk/filler.
Anyway, I'm sure noone gives a chod about any of this, but it's as good a place as any to have a faux blog about it. It's my first artistic project of this magnitude, so it'll be nice to have something to chart my progress. I'm already a couple of weeks into it, but it's just GOT REAL.
